Offa's Dyke Path National Trail celebrates 50 years
The 177-mile walking trail, which was opened in the summer of 1971, passes through eight counties and crosses the border between England and Wales more than 20 times.
To celebrate the trail's 50th anniversary, the Offa’s Dyke Path team is asking walkers past and present to share their memories and photos of the path from the last half-century.
Submissions will be shared on the Offa's Dyke website, and entries can be made via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #OffasDykePath50 and tagging Offa’s Dyke Path official accounts. Alternatively, walkers can send images directly to Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail Officer Rob Dingle via the website.
Rob said: "It will be great to see a collection of walkers' memories from the last 50 years of the Offa’s Dyke Path, and hopefully that will inspire another 50 years of walkers to enjoy our ‘Breath-taking borderlands. And for all those that do submit a photo and memory, they will receive one of our special 50th Anniversary keyrings."
The anniversary will also be celebrated with launches and events over the coming year, covid restrictions allowing, including the re-opening of the Offa's Dyke Centre following state-of-the-art renovations, a multi-day walking festival hosted alongside Ramblers Cymru and an artist exhibition by painter Dan Llwelyn Hall and the nation's poets.
