Keep safe when exploring the great outdoors with location app what3words

With lockdown measures starting to lift across the country, walkers and hikers are beginning to venture back outdoors to take advantage of enjoying more time outdoors and the wellbeing boost that comes from spending time among nature. And hopefully campsites will reopen soon and more people will be exploring the great British countryside again.

With this in mind, it has never been more important for individuals to move around safely, especially if the journey takes you off the beaten track.

What3words is an innovative global addressing app making it easier to communicate exact locations anywhere on the planet. The app has divided the world up into 57 trillion 3 x 3m squares, every square has been given a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. Now you can find, share and navigate to precise meeting points on a hiking trail or landmarks anywhere in the world using three simple words.

Credited for its capability of saving lives, what3words is used by over 75% of the UK’s emergency services. Police, ambulance and fire and rescue services up and down the country use what3words in control rooms to identify exactly where a 999 caller is quickly and easily. If you're travelling by car to your favourite hiking spot, The AA can also accept what3words addresses to help them know exactly where to find you in case of any difficulties out on the roads. what3words also works offline, making it ideal for use in rural areas of the UK where there is an unreliable data connection.

What3words is a simple way to share meet-up locations or viewpoints whilst on remote trails with fellow hikers. The app can also bring help and support to people who may find themselves lost, injured or in difficulty on a tricky route as it provides a simple and accurate way to describe a location where help is needed.

Find out more about the app, here.
