Cumbria campsite wins sustainability award
Cumbrian campsite, The Quiet Site, has been presented with an award to acknowledge its green credentials
The campsite says it is the first in Britain to win a Queen’s Award for sustainability.
Claire Hensman, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, presented the award – a certificate signed by the Queen and the Prime Minister as well as a crystal glass vase – to the campsite owners at the site recently.
The campsite is also allowed to fly a special flag for the next five years.
The award (The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development) aims to highlight Britain's most environmentally responsible businesses.
Daniel Holder, of The Quiet Site, said,
This is an immensely proud moment for us, and a fantastic spur to our efforts to allow people to enjoy this beautiful region without creating a negative impact.
Some of the campsite’s investments in recent years have included solar panels and biomass heating as well as banning single-use plastics.
The site also has a ‘zero-waste’ food shop that specialises in Cumbrian produce that is free from unnecessary packaging and with as low food miles as possible.
Last year the campsite scooped another green accolade with a silver in the Visit England Awards for Excellence in sustainable tourism category.
