Acorn Wood wins Camping and Caravanning Club’s Best CS award

A campsite in Burton-upon-Stather, Lincolnshire, has been announced as the winner of The Camping and Caravanning Club Best Certificated Site (CS) 2014.

Acorn Wood, the small five-‘van site received the most positive nominations and reviews by Club members, and was awarded the prestigious title at the Club’s headquarters in Coventry.

Facilities on site at Acorn Wood include a popular fishing lake, stocked with carp, tench, roach, perch and bream. The Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding National Beauty and Peak District National Park are both close by.

Site owners, Heather and Martin Thompson, purchased their smallholding in the early 1990s. With fond memories of their own camping holidays, they opened Acorn Wood CS in 2008, enabling them to share their site with all Camping and Caravanning Club members.

Heather said, “Martin and I are absolutely over the moon to have been given this award. It’s a huge recognition for all our efforts over the years, and we cannot thank everyone enough for all their support.”

In addition to scooping the Best CS award, Acorn Wood won the Best Facilities award 2014, and members love the spotless facilities and peaceful setting.

With Club members commenting that the site is “Probably the best CS site we have ever stayed on” and “absolutely first class in all areas”, it’s clear why Acorn Wood proved such a success in the Best CS scheme.

A Certificated Site is a small, privately run campsite that can accommodate up to five caravans or motorhomes, and tents in addition. They’re exclusive to Camping and Caravanning Club members. The Club operates a network of more than 1600 CSs in the UK.

Often with minimal facilities, CSs are the perfect site option for getting away from it all. They range from secluded hideaways to full-facility, family-friendly sites, and are often found in locations where larger commercial sites are prohibited.

Darren Whittington, the Club’s Membership Services Director, said, “Winning Best CS and being nominated for two other categories is testament to Acorn Wood’s popularity and appeal among Club members.

“Offering a beautiful fishing lake on site, a nature reserve nearby and all within an hour’s drive of both Leeds and Hull, Acorn Wood is a great example of the diverse and unique nature of our Certificated Sites network.”

Three further Certificated Sites also scooped awards after receiving a nomination from members in other categories. Cefn Cae Campsite won the Best New CS award; The Paddock won the Best Hideaway and Best Friendly Welcome awards, and White Mark Farm won the Best CS for Families award.
