Review: GoXtreme Vision 4K Ultra HD Action Cam

e83c10c5-188b-4657-ac5d-be9bf9f6a6ab

These days we all want to capture our outdoor adventures for posterity – but not every camera is up to the job.

The big question is, should you fork out hundreds of pounds on a GoPro or just try to use your phone camera to film your adventures? Or perhaps there’s an alternative: a budget priced, high-definition action camera that does everything a GoPro can do for considerably less outlay.

The GoXtreme Vision 4K tries to fill that gap in the market. It’s small, lightweight and rugged, comes with a stack of fittings and accessories for attaching the camera in various ways and has a waterproof case that lets you film up to 30m under water. And for those who want the best possible quality footage, it records in 4K at 24 frames per second.

The GoXtreme Vision 4K currently costs round £80 – less than half the price of the cheapest GoPro Hero, which it most closely resembles. In fact the two cameras are very similar in size, spec and features.

As well as a 170 degree wide angled lens, HDMI and USB ports and a Micro SD card slot, the matchbox-sized GoXtreme has a 5cm display screen on the back, to let you preview the footage you’ve just recorded. Navigating the camera’s settings menu using the buttons on the side and top takes a bit of getting used to but one way of getting round that is by installing an app on your phone that allows you to do it remotely via Wi-Fi.

In terms of picture quality, if you are looking for professional standard video footage and still photographs then you will have to look elsewhere. Unsurprisingly an £80 camera does not provide that level of quality. But for the money, you will get images that are more than adequate for most people’s requirements, with superb colour and clarity that really brings your footage to life (see the video below). Time Lapse and Slow Motion options allow you to get creative and sharing the footage from your outdoor exploits and your camping adventures via social media is easy through the app.

Along with the camera, in the box you’ll get waterproof case, bike and helmet mounts, tripod and monopod adaptors, a rechargeable battery and USB cable.

The GoXtreme Vision 4K Ultra HD Action Cam is available now for as little as £79.99

VERDICT

At well-under £100, this is a good value option for capturing footage of your outdoor adventures.
