Woodland Springs Touring Park

3ff292e5-5e5f-4bcd-afec-bc2f54f6d3ea
DARTMOOR National Park is a special place – a vast wilderness of rolling moorland and beautiful landscapes that bewitch or terrify depending on the weather and the day. The only constant is the amount of visitors you will encounter. Dartmoor is very popular with sightseers as well as serious walkers and cyclists. And finding a campsite that is away from the hordes but central enough to allow exploration without endless hours driving can be a daunting task.

However, Woodland Springs, situated just off the A382 between Moretenhampstead and Whiddon Down, provides a satisfactory answer. This strictly adults-only site (even visitors to guests have to be over 18) lies in a peaceful wooded setting on the eastern fringes of the moor. Even the handy nearby A-road is far enough away not to bother you with road noise.

The owners, Chris and Jan Patrick, live on site and they are justifiably proud of what they have created – and the site is very popular so check availability in advance during peak season and at weekends. Chris and Jan have kept the site as natural as possible to encourage wildlife and there have been 50 species of birds recorded in the vicinity in the last year or so.

For those who want a longer stay there is a choice of standard pitches with electric hook ups and basic pitches. The site is well laid out and pitches are grass or hard standing. A new toilet and shower block has been completed where showers are free, and the site also has a shop and off-licence.

Dog owners are well catered for. There is a very large dog-walking field and the site also offers kennels during the day, freeing up visitors to visit tourist attractions where dogs would not be permitted.
