Teachers top holiday home class

RESEARCH by holiday parc operator Siblu Exclusif has found that that people in education are the most likely to buy a mobile home in France.
Teachers seeking solace from school days are leading a new trend in buying luxury mobile homes abroad, the company believes.

Those working in education are second only to retirees when it comes to owning French holiday homes. Teachers make up 15% of owners at eight siblu parcs on France’s west and south coasts, followed by health care workers (10%) and then civil servants (6%). The largest single group of owners (29%) is retirees.

Primary school head teacher Anita Gutteridge said, “Our life in France offers a total contrast to being at home. We wake up to birds singing and spend our time relaxing and unwinding.”

Anita is a mobile home owner at siblu’s La Pignade in Charente Maritime. “We leave for our French home on the first day of the holidays and return to the UK the day before school starts,” she continued. “Our teenage daughters pop over for visits, and family and friends can stay with us at any time.

“Staying on a holiday parc offers us the best of all worlds. We have a bolt-hole that we can visit anytime; we have made fantastic friends from the UK and France, and we know that there’s always someone to keep an eye on our home – our neighbours even water the plants!”

Mobile home ownership in France is becoming increasingly popular as a low-cost way of owning a holiday home abroad. Siblu has almost 4,000 private owners staying at parcs in regions including Brittany, Aquitaine and Languedoc. New mobile homes start from as little as £20,000.
