New standards set for residential parks

THE government has published new Model Standards as guidance for local authorities in their policing of park home estates.

Local authorities are the licencing bodies responsible for residential parks, and may use the Standards as the basic conditions for a licence granted to a park. The standards are discretionary minimum conditions, however. Licencing authorities may impose tougher rules if they wish, but it is not against the law to largely ignore them.

The latest Standards include new recommendations on distances between homes, the density of developments, standards for bases, parking and recreation areas and displaying park information.

Separate model standards apply to holiday caravan sites, which are not affected by the new document.
