Hollicarrs bowls them over

THE HOLLICARRS holiday lodge park, south of York, launched its new bowling green last month after two years of preparation and an investment of around £30,000.

The opening celebrations started with a play-off between Noel ‘Nobby’ Clark from the nearby North Duffield Bowling Club and Charles Forbes Adam, owner of Escrick Park Estate, of which The Hollicarrs is part.

Throughout the afternoon guests enjoyed Pimms, cream teas and music from a jazz quartet.

“We really enjoyed the day and I think we discovered some new bowling talent among the holiday home owners,” said Nobby. “Now we are looking forward to playing against a full Hollicarrs team.”

The bowling green is the latest of many amenities at The Hollicarrs. Others include a well-stocked fishing lake, an off road and cross-country bridle path extending to 27 miles, dedicated cycle tracks plus cycle hire, parkland walks, a new hard tennis court and a boules court.

It is no surprise that VisitBritain, the UK-wide organisation that incorporates the former English Tourist Board, has just awarded The Hollicarrs its top five-star rating for the second year running.

It was cited for its excellent facilities, the low density of the development, attractive natural surroundings, excellent health and safety provision, disabled access and attentive customer care.

Future plans for The Hollicarrs include a health spa with indoor swimming pool and sauna/steam room, the development of an arboretum featuring species native to Yorkshire and a sculpture park to display the work of local sculptor Peter Maris.

Charles Forbes Adam, who manages both the park and the estate, estimates that the entire development will contribute about £1 million a year to the local economy.
