New Holiday Home – The Pemberton Park Lane

FROM the outside, Pemberton’s latest holiday home, the two bedroom Park Lane, is a standard rectangular 40ft x 14ft white box – just like a host of other models you see on parks throughout the country. When you go inside, however, it’s a very different story.

The entrance is midway along the front of the home and leads directly into the dining area, with the lounge to your left and the kitchen facing you at the other side of the dining area. Though the dining area was set for four, I felt it could seat six in comfort without anyone feeling cramped. Bearing in mind that the home has two double bedrooms, plus a sofa bed as standard in the lounge, being able to seat six people is obviously sensible, if not essential.

I’ve never been enthusiastic about entering a home via the dining area, but the floor here and in the kitchen is vinyl planking with a curved edge where it meets the carpet in the lounge area, so the arrangement does at least minimise the risk of mud and dirt being trodden into the carpet.


High-spec lounge


The lounge takes up roughly one third of the home’s floor area, with a breakfast bar and two ultra-modern bar stools separating it from the kitchen. On the end wall of the lounge is a log-effect electric fire, above which is a wall-mounted 32in LCD TV. This is included in the home’s standard specification, as are the two three-seater settees, one of which is also a 5ft fold-out sofa bed.

Also on the end wall – to the left of the fireplace – is a bi-fold door giving access to the outside deck or patio, while to the right of the fireplace is a tall window unit.

As the ceiling throughout the home is vaulted, there is adequate headroom for the five-lamp pendant in the lounge and the three-lamp pendant in the dining area. There are also four downlights in the ceiling in the lounge, plus a further six in the kitchen area, and another one near the front door.


Better than most


The kitchen is U-shaped, with the sink on the back wall. On the left as you walk in is the breakfast bar, while on the right is the five burner gas hob and oven, plus extractor.

The extractor has its own downlights, but what I especially liked were the almost totally concealed downlights above the glazed cupboards on the rear wall which lit their interiors. Apart from creating a talking point, this makes it easier to locate items – all too often, cupboards at high level are both difficult to reach and to find things in.

In addition to the five burner gas hob, cooker and grill, other standard equipment includes a built-in microwave – on the wall at the end of the breakfast bar – a fridge/freezer, and a dishwasher and washer/dryer, both housed below the sink and drainer.

The position of the microwave deserves special mention as it is below eye level, reducing the risk of spillage when removing hot items.

Also notable are the six large drawers in the back of the breakfast bar, which provide a massive amount of storage.

All the walls are completely tiled and there are plenty of power points.


Twin or double


Further along the hallway, on the left, is the second bedroom, equipped with two large twin beds – which can be put together to make a double with sufficient space to walk around both sides.

Above the beds is a fabric headboard spanning the full width of the room and above that are two cupboards – one above each bed, with a single shelf between them. As elsewhere in the home, due to the pitched ceiling, there is empty space between the tops of the cupboards and the ceiling.

Opposite the bottom of the beds are a single and a double wardrobe with timber framed doors, each containing three mirrors. In the bottom of the double wardrobe is a three-drawer unit, so there’s plenty of storage. There’s also a wall bracket for a TV, plus a radiator on the wall behind the door.


Super shower


From the kitchen and dining area a semi-glazed door leads into the hallway, lit by three ceiling downlights. First on the right is the shower room, which is another major feature of the home due to the huge floor to ceiling shower cubicle – basically a half bath –taking up the whole of one wall.

There’s also a very stylish washbasin on a base unit with toiletry storage. Above the basin is a large wall mirror, and next to it the low level WC. A chromed ladder radiator is on the adjoining wall, and all the walls are plastic tiled to ceiling level.


Master with bath


The main bedroom and en suite occupies the end section of the home, with a double bed and fabric headboard. Unlike the second bedroom, there are no overbed cabinets, just two pictures. There are table lights on the bedside tables (not supplied) and, as in the twin, ceiling downlights.

Opposite the bottom of the bed are double and single mirror-doored wardrobes, the double also containing a chest of drawers. On the left is a dressing table with two drawers and a stool, above it a large timber-framed mirror, and above that are three cabinets running the length of the wall.

Instead of a shower unit, the en suite has a bath with a shower head. Facing it are the washbasin and low level WC. The washbasin has been set into a double door cabinet, and the unit runs the full length of the wall, concealing the cistern. Above the washbasin is a wall mirror with integral lighting. In addition to the cabinet unit, there are two shelves.


The verdict


The Park Lane is very well equipped, with everything you need for the good life. It is also designed for year-round use – though check the site licence before committing yourself – and its ex-works price of £53,854.95 (including £2,364.95 VAT) makes it really attractive. There are other holiday homes of similar size and price that don’t come with items many people consider essential – a dishwasher, washer/dryer, and built-in microwave for instance.

As I mentioned, when you first see the Park Lane it doesn’t stand out from the pack. It’s when you step inside that you begin to appreciate what you’re getting for your cash. I have no doubt that the more potential buyers take a look, the more sales it will attract.
