Weinsberg launches its first Mercedes-based motorhomes

With two new additions to the portfolio of German motorhome manufacturer, Weinsberg (part of the Knaus Tabbert Group), the company is marking the beginning of a new era of cooperation with Mercedes-Benz

The CaraCompact 640 MEG and CaraCompact Suite 640 MEG, which is similar but with a drop-down bed over the front lounge, will now be offered on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, reflecting similar philosophies of the two German brands, with safety, comfort, premium quality and reliability to the fore.

And typically for Weinsberg, the new motorhomes are said to have a unique price-performance ratio. From the outset, the new vehicles are also available in special Pepper trim, which results in savings of more than €20,000 when compared with a standard model specified with the same equipment.

In the interior, the new low-profile models have the usual looks and equipment of a Pepper Edition, while the Mercedes-Benz cab blends harmoniously with the Weinsberg living area. The long-wheelbase of the Sprinter, at 3.92m, ensures greater driving comfort, while the wide-track axle reduces body roll, ensures less sensitivity to side winds and gives better driving stability.

The two new vehicles not only have an interior headroom of 2.00m, they are also the widest vans in their class with an interior width of 2.12m. The length of the CaraCompact is 6.91m, while the CaraCompactSuite is 6.97m. Thanks to the sloping furniture, the space is optimally used.

The single beds in the rear offer a large sleeping area with a length of 2.00m and there is also more space in the washroom than in the equivalent Fiat-based CaraCompact. The front lounge is also said to offer increased comfort.

The CaraCompact Suite 640 MEG Pepper Edition and the CaraCompact 640 MEG Pepper Edition are both available with the 150bhp engine, front-wheel drive and either a six-speed manual or 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, or the 170bhp motor as an automatic only.

As standard the maximum gross weight is 3,500kg but an increase to 4,200kg is available at extra cost.

The Hot Pepper Package contains important Mercedes safety features, such as an electric parking brake, distance assistant, traffic sign assistant, and the MBUX multimedia system (10.25in touchscreen, DAB+ radio, three years of free map updates, and an instrument cluster with colour display including the reversing camera).

In the UK, the CaraCompact Suite 640 MEG Pepper Edition on the Mercedes chassis is priced from £70,240, while the Hot Pepper Package is an additional £2,936.
