Vanshades expands production facility

Barnsley-based motorhome and campervan blind specialist, Vanshades, has moved to a new 11,500 square-foot facility, thanks to support from the South Yorkshire Business Productivity Programme

Founded in 2016 by Pete Staniforth, Vanshades manufactures and produces thermal blackout blinds for VW and Ford campervans, which are installed directly into the window recesses to improve thermal properties, and keep them in place on the move.

Pete came up with the idea of a modular blind system after buying a campervan and not being able to find a blind on the market that suited his needs.

Pete explains,

By 2021, Vanshades was working at full capacity so turned to Enterprising Barnsley, Barnsley Council’s business support arm, and was able to secure a match-funded grant through the South Yorkshire Business Productivity Programme.

Until recently, Vanshades relied on an external company to produce a key component for the blinds. But now, thanks to its larger premises and an investment in new CNC machinery, Vanshades has brought all of its production elements in-house, reducing production times from six weeks to three.

Pete adds,

The increased capacity has seen the company double its turnover. It now plans to expand its range to support more vehicle models and create new jobs to meet the growing demand.
