Travelworld goes exclusively Hymer

Telford-based dealership Travelworld has announced that it will now be focusing exclusively on Hymer Group motorhomes.

Managing Director, Ross Edwards, told Which Motorhome that it was a move that has taken quite a few months to finalise but it made good commercial sense to concentrate on ’vans from one group. “Whereas some dealerships seem to be collecting UK and European brands to offera massive catalogue, we see the future being in specialising with one group.”

Travelworld will now offer four distinct ranges from the Hymer portfolio: Hymer, Neismann + Bischoff, HymerCar and Carado.

Ross added, “The benefits for us are many but foremost is the fact that Hymer builds fantastic products. We get hardly any warranty claims and we have very little preparation work to carry out.”

“We will also only have to train our sales and workshop staff on only one range of vehicles, which makes everything far more efficient.”

“The other important factor is the used market is always strong with Hymer. We often have to go out and actively seek used stock, and where other ’vans may have a 10-year shelf-life, we have no worries about older Hymer vehicles.”

Which Motorhome asked how he felt that sales would be affected by dropping popular brands like Chausson and Auto-Trail. “We’re confident that the Carado range will more than match them like-for-like. We resisted stocking Carado for a while as Chausson was building such good products but now Carado is truly positioned as the start of Hymer’s offerings, rather than entry-level ’vans, it makes sense to switch.”

Although Hymer’s total UK sales are less than half of their pre-recession levels Ross stated, “We’re confident that within the next two seasons our unit sales will easily exceed current levels.”

We also asked how the move would affect Travelworld’s existing customer base. Ross replied, “We managed to retain a number of customers when we moved away from American RVs to European units and we’re confident that we can hold on to them again. With Hymer’s range covering almost every price point and their greater selection that fit within the 3.5-tonne licence restrictions, we will have something for everyone.”

Travelworld will have the 2015 range of Carados in stock from this July. Meanwhile, 2015-model Hymer motorhomes will come as standard with ESP across the range (previously a £1,000 option) and other reductions will give customers a £1,500 saving on current model prices.
