Thetford launches new compressor fridges for motorhomes

Thetford has announced a new generation of motorhome and campervan fridges that are 12V and mains powered only. The new T2000 models have been designed to offer a 12V alternative to the company’s most popular three-way models (gas, 12V and mains), with a particular focus on noise and energy use.

There will be five models, including three slim-fit versions at just under 42cm wide, primarily designed for campervans.

The two larger models are 52.5cm wide and boast a freezer at the bottom of the unit. This gives a more domestic feel and keep the standard cool food compartment more at eye level. There are also cooling benefits to this, too.

The ATC temperature control system measures ambient fridge and freezer levels and uses electronics to decide when the fridge needs to boost. A lower fan noise and compressor noise also means these fridges are aimed to be quieter in operation.

On models with the freezer, you can regulate the temperature independently or turn it off completely (in the latter instance this compartment remains at 17˚C, so it can be used for storage of items such as medicines. If you turn it off completely when it is not needed, you can save up to 45% of power consumption.

Thetford confirmed that we are likely to see this fridge in models from Adria and Bürstner as well as campervans from Trigano, Laika, Dethleffs and Hymer. It will also be available on the aftermarket from January 2021.

The company has also launched two new concentrated chemicals: Aquakem Blue gets a new fragrance (eucalyptus with a touch of mint) while the Duo Tank Cleaner replaces the cassette tank-only version, but can also be used to clean grey water tanks.
