New S4 models are the first IH Fiat campervans with rear seatbelts

Luxury van-based motorhome manufacturer, IH, has long concentrated solely on pure two-berth layouts, without any rear travel seats.

Now, however, the Yorkshire-based company has launched a closely related pair of Fiat Ducato-based models with four travel seats – the 600 RD/S4 and 630 RD/S4.

In each of the new models there is a rear lounge as well as the forward seating area. The number refers to the length of the vehicle (either 6.00m or 6.36m) with the additional length of the extra-long-wheelbase version being devoted entirely to having more room in the rear lounge.

Despite their quartet of travel seats, the RD/S4 models each still offer beds for just two people, with IH offering an awning and Safari room as part of a pack to cater for those needing sleeping space for occasional guests or grandchildren.

In both versions, IH has worked in association with a specialist seat manufacturer to ensure that its rear passenger seats are truly automotive in style. Two separate seats are fitted side by side and these not only slide forward and recline but also move apart to create extra shoulder-room while travelling.

As usual with an IH motorhome, the new S4 models can be specified with a variety of furniture and upholstery styles and the company offers a comprehensive list of options to further personalise the vehicles.

For example, kitchens can be fitted with a gas oven or microwave, or neither for additional worktop space. IH can also replace the rear lounge with a fixed bed, creating extra on-board storage, as well as fitting its rear-doors-replacing moulding with opening boot, often seen as a trademark feature of the brand.

The new 600 RD/S4 is priced from £57,495, while the longer 630 version costs £2k more.
