New long-wheelbase Renault Escape campervan from CMC

Concept Multi-Car (CMC) has launched a long-wheelbase version of its Renault Trafic-based Escape in its HemBil campervan range.

The new version is priced at £2,000 more than the short-wheelbase model, resulting in a starting price of £47,950 on-the-road, based on a new Trafic Sport with 120dCi engine and six-speed manual gearbox. Upgrades to the 145dCi or 170dCi engines are available, with either of the more powerful engines also offered with the EDC automatic gearbox which is a recent addition to the Trafic.

The long-wheelbase Escape is 40cm longer than the existing standard model, at 5.40m long, with the extra length inside being used for an additional full-height cupboard in the offside kitchen unit.

The conversion comes with a standard side galley layout featuring a choice of either a 40-litre top-loading fridge or a similarly sized front-loading fridge. It also comes with a stainless-steel two-burner hob and sink combination unit and a 1,155mm-wide Reimo sliding seat system with three lap and diagonal seatbelts, making the Escape a five-seater. One or two additional removable passenger seats can be added in a central third row, so up to travel seven seats are possible.

The Trafic Sport base vehicle comes with a 7in Renault MediaNavEvolution display with sat-nav and DAB radio, air-conditioning, trip computer, automatic lights and wipers, a leather steering wheel with reach and rake adjustment, metallic paint, body coloured door mirrors, 17in alloy wheels, ESC with Hill Start Assist and Grip Xtend, remote central locking, rear parking sensors, cruise control and front fog lights. It comes with a three-year/100,000-mile Renault warranty and three years’ Renault Assistance cover.

Popular conversion options include a roof bed (£595), driver’s seat swivel (£295) and Eberspächer diesel heating (£1,400). Base vehicle options include a passenger airbag (£264), heated cab seats (£132) and front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera (£480).

CMC also offers Fiat Transit Custom and VW Transporter T6.1 versions of its Escape model.
