New Ford motorhomes for Swift

72f21cc3-cb8d-49af-959d-408cbd668904

Following on from the successful launch of the Transit Custom-based Monza campervan earlier this year, Swift is planning to introduce a range of low-profile motorhomes based on the full-size Transit

The Voyager range will be powered by the 160bhp Ford engine as standard, with a metallic grey cab. There will be four layouts, all with four berths, the 540 (end washroom, big front lounge), the 564 (French bed), 584 (twin single beds above a garage) and the 594 (island bed).

All have twin inward facing sofas in the lounge, with fold-out Aguti travel seats below each one – these come with Isofix as standard. Kitchens will come with a Thetford oven and grill, three-burner gas hob, electric hotplate and a 133-litre fridge. Beds get comfy Duvalay mattresses.

The models adopt Swift’s SMART construction, featuring a timber-free polyurethane frame with HD polystyrene insulation. The floor has a GRP outer, while sides and roof are GRP-skinned inside and out. Other features include an opening panoramic rooflight over the cab, 16in alloy wheels, built-in TPMS, lightweight 100W solar panel and a 60cm-wide habitation door.

All models can be driven on a standard category B driving licence as the MTPLM is rated at 3,500kg. You can upgrade to the 153bhp Ford engine with automatic gearbox, while a microwave and Thule bike rack can be fitted by the dealer.

Since the Ford Monza was only launched a few months ago, it remains unchanged for the coming season; however, there are two new layouts for the Carrera high-top models on the Fiat Ducato: the 132 (rear lounge) and the 194 (twin single beds).

Changes across the range include an LED awning light with rain diverter above the sliding door. The floor and roof interior roof panels are now one piece each – the floor is 22mm thick and the roof is 14mm.

Externally, models also get a Whale BBQ point and a connection for an outside shower. Interiors have also been changed for the coming year and all but the 122 and 132 get a new armrest on the side wall next to the front dinette seats that incorporates a USB socket. Rear lounges get angled seating for better comfort and a fold-out rear bed make-up (except the 194).

Kitchens come with a two-burner hob and sink combo, an oven/grill below and a 90-litre fridge. Washrooms are new, too, with tip-up basins and a separate shower tap with an on-off button. The heating and hot water system are installed underneath to maximise storage space in the campervan itself.

Another new range for 2023, the Ascari low-profile models are based on Fiat’s Ducato with the 140bhp engine. There are two models, the 344 and 372. The 344 has a height-adjustable drop-down bed that lowers to the height of the seats. Washrooms have tip-up basins, to maximise space, and access is through a tambour door. There are numerous options here, too, including the 140bhp engine, nine-speed automatic gearbox, towbar, awning, air-conditioning, a satellite system and bike racks.

The mid-level Escape coachbuilts on the Fiat Ducato continue into 2023 with five models, starting with the 6.99m 640 end washroom model, with the four remaining models at 7.84m long. Expect new exterior graphics and a new interior décor, plus a new style of washing-up bowl.

The flagship Kon-Tiki range also gets new exterior graphics and new wood choices for furniture and floors. The three biggest models get the upgraded 180bhp engine with nine-speed auto (874, 884 and 894) for this year, while rear reversing sensors are fitted across all six models. Plus, you get a heated windscreen (Defrost Pack) and improved latches and locks on sliding bedroom doors. Kitchens have been revised to offer more drawers, including a large cutlery drawer and a deeper pan drawer on soft-close runners, among other things.
