New electric campervan due to go into production

A new electric microvan, which will be available as a campervan, is set to go into production in 2022

The new Xbus

The lightweight Xbus comes in a modular design and will initially have two chassis options, the City and the Off-road, which has more ground clearance. There are also eight modules to choose from, which the company says can be swapped out by the customer.

There's a bus option with a second row of seats, a tipper, a cargo box, a standard van, a single or double cab pick-up, a convertible and the camper.

What it has to offer

The two camping modules combine to provide two berths. There's a pop-top roof and in this variant you get a fridge, TV, hob, fresh water tank, sink and a bed measuring 210cm by 130cm.

The Xbus was developed from the Ebussy concept introduced three years ago, and the first models will roll off the production line in mid-2022. Starting prices for the most basic version will be under £17,000.

Under the hood

Being electric, this vehicle is all-wheel drive with four in-hub motors offering a continuous output of 15kW, with the peak power of 56kW. Torque is 1,000Nm. Eight battery packs on the basic version will deliver, the company claims, between 62 miles to 124 miles and some modules come with roof-integrated solar cells to extend this range by up to 124 miles per day.

You can also specify extra battery packs to increase this range, although that lowers your payload. The top speed will be 62mph

The design also allows for battery packs to be swapped out and exchanged for full batteries, and the company is currently working towards setting up a battery exchange station network for this.
