Hobby launches VW Maxia Van campervan

35d15614-1b35-4a6c-b620-b9c5873cd86e

The Caravan Salon Düsseldorf has seen the debut of Hobby’s new Maxia Van, which is said to combine Scandinavian flair and cosiness with state-of-the-art bodywork and vehicle technology. It is Hobby’s first conversion on a Volkswagen Crafter.

Hobby's Managing Director, Bernd Löher, says,

With the Maxia Van, we’re catering to customers for whom travel and driving dynamics are of paramount importance, but who don’t want to make any compromises where style and comfort are concerned.

Inside, the new campervan has light walnut woodwork, graphite grey wall units, white overhead cabinets and simple Scandinavian design. The grey V-Flex felt-effect lining for the roof and side walls as well as the modern cabinet doors contribute to a feeling of cosiness. And with a super-high roof, there’s a comfortable interior headroom of 2m.

Bernd adds,

As a North German motorhome and caravan manufacturer, we naturally have a high affinity for Scandinavia, as well as the feeling of ‘hygge’ which we are now also introducing into the van segment with our Maxia Van.

The 6.84m-long campervan has a rear fixed bed layout featuring longitudinal sleeping. There is a central washroom and kitchen and a front lounge incorporating the swivel cab seats. The multifunctional rear section of the campervan also has room for the two pull-out, 11kg gas cylinders.

The Maxia Van’s kitchen includes a 90-litre compressor fridge, and a combination hob/sink unit with a two-burner hob featuring electric ignition. It also has a fold-out worktop extension and drawers with push lock and soft-close mechanisms. Another feature is the slide-out bench seat, which can not only be moved forwards and sideways, but is also said to be extremely ergonomic.

Thanks to the ambient lighting, Truma Combi 6 heating and highly effective Cello-foam insulation made of up to 60% recycled fibres, a cold foam mattress and Goodside slatted bed frame, the Maxia Van is compatible with winter camping.

It has a maximum technically permissible laden mass of 3,500kg as standard, but an increase in load capacity is available with the 3,850kg option. The VW base vehicle comes with a Composition Colour multimedia system, including a TFT display, four speakers, Bluetooth and two USB-C ports, while the Hobby has its own mobile internet connection thanks to CamperNet LTE.

This first model in the Maxia range is powered by a 177bhp TDI engine with eight-speed automatic transmission and start/stop. A comprehensive range of driving assistance systems are also standard, including fatigue detection, a reversing camera, Lane Assist, traffic monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, and light and rain sensors.

The Maxia Van will be available at Hobby dealerships from the fourth quarter onwards.
