Campervan converter now owned by staff

Jerba Campervans was founded in 2006 by husband and wife team, Simon Poole and Catherine Brookes, and now specialises in set Volkswagen T6-based campervans.

Employee Ownership (EO) is where employees hold the majority of the shares of a company either directly or in this case an employee benefit trust.

Simon commented, “The matter of succession had been in the back of our minds as something we would need to consider in around five years time, however, when we started exploring employee ownership as a potential solution, we were so sold on the benefits we decided to make the transition sooner rather than later.”

Catherine and Simon will continue with their day-to-day roles, while the employees are given a stake in the business and a say in how it is run. One of the key factors for this decision was protecting local jobs – which may not be the case if the business was sold to another company.
