The top 5 places in Ireland to visit with your motorhome: The Giant's Causeway

96f6fed3-6fc7-4785-b5e1-02b7607a73b8

With such a vast country of attractions, it can be difficult deciding where in Ireland to visit on a motorhome touring holiday. To make life a little more hassle free, we've chosen our top 5 things you should see, starting with ...

1) The Giant's Causeway

Northern Ireland is home to the world famous Giant’s Causeway on the Antrim coastline. It is a World Heritage Site and the heritage coastline extends 12 miles to the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. The Causeway Rambler Bus Service allows people who don’t want to drive or walk the full route to access all the attractions along the coastline easily.

The Giant’s Causeway is renowned for its 40,000-plus polygonal columns of layered basalt that resulted from a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago. This is scientific fact. But myth and legend says it was carved from the coast by a giant, Finn McCool, to use as stepping stones to Scotland, so as not to get his feet wet. Learn the full story at the new Giant’s Causeway Visitor Experience which houses a number of exhibition areas.

People visiting this geological marvel can walk across the columns and enjoy four trails of various grades, which offer breathtaking views of jagged cliffs and wave-lashed bays. There are routes suitable for all ages and abilities. You can also experience the full extent of the coastline by walking the coastal path to Carrick-a-Rede...

Traditionally erected by fishermen to cross a 30m deep and 20m wide chasm to check their salmon nets, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge today provides an exhilarating experience where nerves of steel may be needed. Once you’ve crossed and reached Carrick Island, the reward for your bravery (or stupidity) is seeing the diverse birdlife and views across to Rathlin Island and Scotland. After you’ve conquered the bridge, reward yourself with a cake and a cuppa in the tearoom.
