Hawkshead Brewery, Staveley, Cumbria
Hawkshead is a fantastic family-owned and run brewery founded in 2002. Cumbria’s largest independent brewery, it specialises in brewing traditional beers with a twist using the best quality cone hops and malted barley. Tours take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 2pm and last an hour, costing £6.50 per person.
Camp at: Windermere Camping and Caravanning Club Campsite
Windermere campsite has some great facilities, plus it is only a short walk into Staveley where Hawkshead Brewery is based. Once you’ve finished sampling the beer you’ll be free to enjoy the hot showers in the heated shower block, and can stop for a bite to eat at the on-site pub, The Whistling Pig, which serves up hearty meals and has a pool table. Prices start from £26.75 per pitch with electric.
Black Sheep Brewery, Masham, North Yorkshire
Black Sheep beers have been in production since 1992 and are a local favourite. An hour long tour around the Black Sheep brewery will give you plenty of time to learn all about the history of this traditional brew house and the intricacies of its fermenting process, and you’ll have the chance to sample their finest ale at the end of the tour. Tickets cost £6.95 per person and tours run most days of the week.
Camp at: Old Station Holiday Park
Old Station Holiday Park is built on the grounds of the former Masham train station and is within easy walking distance of the town and brewery. This family-run campsite features a heated shower block, a spacious barbecue area and brand new reception and café selling local produce. Visitors to the site who arrive in mid-July will also get to witness the arrival of the annual steam engine and fair organ rally at the site. Prices start from £18.50 based on 2 adults.
Keswick Brewery, Keswick, Cumbria
Keswick brewery is a small independent craft brewery set up in 2006. The bespoke brewery was built with environmental issues in mind – the tanks are even insulated with wool from local Herwick sheep. Tours run Friday and Saturdays at 11am and 2 pm and last 1 hour 30 minutes. Tickets cost £9 with a 10p donation from each tour going towards Conservation projects including Red Squirrel Conservation. Tickets can be booked online. The brewery also has a brewery shop that is open during the week and its own membership club.

Castlerigg Farm is positioned slightly above the town of Keswick, but it is still only a half hour walk to the high street and Keswick brewery. This campsite is always very popular in high season so you may want to book early to guarantee a pitch. Providing stunning views of the surrounding area, the site is spread across several fields that can be found at the end of a secluded country road. There is also an onsite shop which stocks the basics, and the camp restaurant serves up well-priced tasty meals to guests if you fancy a break from cooking. Pitches start from £18 with electric.
