Motorhome destination of the month: Cornwall

34838981-efb3-4015-9414-150a2872ab9e

Of all the counties in the UK, few are as well suited to campervan and motorhome adventures as Cornwall. It could almost have been purpose-designed for us. While it’s great fun in the peak summer season, we reckon the best time to visit it is when the 'Grockles' have returned home.

Out of the peak school holiday times you’ll see a quieter and more laid-back side to Cornwall and see it more in the way that the locals do. While some peak tourist attractions may not be open, the amazing coastal paths that encircle the rugged coastline always are and the beaches are always a welcoming place for a wander.

For a town that offers both the magic of the seaside, trendy boutique shops and restaurants we’d head to Padstow (or Padstein as it’s often referred to, thanks to the many Rick Stein establishments).

Where to stay in Padstow

Padstow Touring Park, Padstow, Cornwall PL28 8LE
Open: All year
Tel: 01841 532061

This 13-acre park offers 150 pitches (75 on hardstandings, 135 with electric hook-up) and is one mile away from Padstow with footpath access into town. There are two toilet blocks, one with underfloor heating. All are modern, well-maintained and clean. There is a family shower room, disabled facilities, dishwashing sinks and a laundry. There’s also a children’s play area, WiFi coverage and a shop selling groceries and camping accessories. It also bagged the Campsite of the Year South West Winner in the AA Caravan and Camping Awards 2016-2017.

Brewing up in Padstow

Padstow Brewing Co, 4a Trecerus Estate, Padstow, PL28 8RW
Tel: 01841 532169 / 07834 924312
Visit: padstowbrewing.co.uk

For a really indulgent trip, why not take a brewery tour with the Padstow Brewing Company and enjoy ‘a pint of Padstow’? As well as offering brewery tours (usually on Fridays and/or Saturdays at 2pm), they also offer full-day Brewing Experiences. They also have a tasting room and shop on Broad Street in the town centre. A must-visit for all real ale fans!

Where to eat in Padstow

Stein’s Fish & Chips South Quay, Padstow PL28 8BL
Tel: 01841 532700
Visit: rickstein.com

Our favourite Rick Stein eatery. Here you'll find perfectly battered fish (we’d go for haddock as it’s more flavoursome than cod) with a side of chip loveliness. Splash on some vinegar, sit by the harbour and watch the boats ambling about. Brill!
