For many years, MMM (and its pro-active readers) has spearheaded a campaign to persuade official bodies (and landowners) to provide proper facilities for motorhomers. This campaign was primarily concerned with ridding car parks of the hated height barriers – but it soon became apparent that there was more we should ask for.
The encouragement of motorhomers as visitors to a particular area will have a beneficial effect on the local economy. For a long time, persuading officials to accept this proposition was an uphill battle, and even now, whilst publicly accepting that motorcaravanners bring in much-needed business, councils and other bodies are still dragging their feet when it comes to actually doing anything constructive.
On the parking front, witness the growth of our list of motorcaravan-friendly parking – but persuading local authorities to provide overnight halts is proving a more difficult nut to crack. Whilst pressing hard for short-term overnight halts, we should not lose sight of the need for daytime parking for motorhomes – particularly with a general increase in the average size of motorhomes (both in length and width), which can make the use of ‘normal’ parking an impossibility.

get involved
If you can identify a local car park, or similar area, that could potentially accommodate motorhomes in special bays (either as day parking or for overnight halts) but which does not do so, then get in touch with your local council (or the owner of the land, if it is not public) and ask them why this is the case. Why not enclose a copy of this article – to show them how they could also benefit from some excellent free publicity?
And, when (if) you get a reply, please send copies to MMM – so we can give good publicity to those bodies who are willing to look at the issues (or, better still, do something about them), and a sharp reminder to the blinkered ones!
If you feel that your efforts locally are meeting with a blank wall, and you would like to take the matter to a higher authority, then you can, of course, contact your local MP.
In the meantime, if you encounter parking (day or overnight) or facilities specifically for motorhomes – let us know. We need an address, some straightforward directions and what’s on offer. A photo would be nice, if you have one. It would also be great if you could mention any restrictions on dogs, especially, it seems on council-run park and ride schemes, where bus rides are involved.
Our list below gives the latest details of motorcaravan-friendly parking as experienced
by readers of MMM, overnight stopovers are highlighted. We’d like to see this list growing longer by the day.

If you find that any of the information in the list is no longer current, please do also let us know. Let’s give councils, and other bodies, who set out to help motorhomers some really good publicity! Write to:
