Campervan.uk.com is the motorhome conversions branch of G&P Motors, widely known for its Toyota Hi-Tour 280.

What many people might not realise is that they are equally adept at producing individual conversions to customers’ own specifications.

Judy and Phil Taylor, were more than happy to praise them for the excellelent build quality of their uniquely specified Citroen Relay.

“Our first camper van was a home conversion on a short wheelbase, low top Citroen Relay.

Its simplicity and fuel economy served us very well, but it became apparent that the height of the roof and the inability to fit a toilet compartment became a problem, especially on some of the smaller sites or in French towns.

Having looked at many “off the shelf” conversions we felt that they were almost all too large and too elaborate for us. Fortunately, we found Gez of G&P Camper Vans at the NEC. We were delighted to meet someone whose conversions were clearly of excellent quality and who was more than happy to work with us to design a new Relay conversion which would exactly meet our needs and our budget.

Our priorities were for a vehicle that was easy to park and manoeuvre, was fuel efficient. It also needed space for a toilet compartment and height to stand comfortably. The Relay H2 L2 (medium height and length) fitted all these criteria. We found that G&P’s experience and creative suggestions about the layout were invaluable, especially the simplicity and robustness of the design they produced.

It was clear that in order to have a toilet compartment and also a generous and well laid out kitchen space we would have to sacrifice access from the cab. However, this has resulted in a toilet which could accommodate a wash basin and shower, although for our own purposes we were prepared to manage with the sink in the kitchen.

We took the camper down to the Shakedown Run in May and were delighted with how well the arrangement worked. Lack of cab access proved not to be a problem and the extra cab seat is far more sociable for a guest.

Two people can stretch out on the sofas, which will comfortably seat four and can also be used as single beds. Having had a fixed double bed previously, we were faintly anxious about using the table to make up a bed running accross the vav. However, in practise, this was no more trouble than making up our previous bed.

The layout worked exceptionally well and the only modification that we have asked for is to accept Gez’s original advice and change the grill for a microwave. There is ample room in the van for a television, but we prefer to remember that we are camping not house moving.

A similar conversion can cost you as little as £32,000. Find G&P campervan.uk.com on the A51 Between Stafford and Stone. If travelling on the M6, leave at junction 14 and head towards Stone on the A34. nent build quality of their uniquely specified Citroen Relay.
