LEADING park home insurance provider, Towergate Bakers, has created a bespoke Legal Expenses product for new and existing clients.

Now available to new customers, and automatically included with existing park home policies renewing on or after May 1, the product pays up to £250,000 Legal Expenses costs with a £25,000 cap per claim. Along-side park home disputes, it covers job and consumer conflicts, plus personal injury and tax protection issues.

“Despite legislative improvements, the number of disputes between park home owners and park owners are, sadly, increasing,” said Towergate Bakers’ Sales Director, Paul Baker.

“These conflicts cause huge worry, concern to many elderly and often vulnerable park home owners, so I’m hopeful this policy inclusion will strengthen their resolve to tackle site owners that are acting illegally.”

Park Home Legal Services expert and Park & Holiday Homes contributor, Graham Watts, helped draft the park home section. He commented: “Park home residents now have additional peace of mind that if they have a dispute, a support mechanism is there to help them.”

The product tackles disputes with the site owner over the right to use and occupy a park home; the right to peaceful enjoyment of the park home, pitch, services and facilities; the right to sell a park home (providing sale is six months after policy purchase/renewal); disputes over annual fees (providing the home has been owned for 12 months); and disputes over
site maintenance.

“It was crucial to involve a park home legislative expert when drawing up the policy wording,” Paul added, “and we’re confident Graham’s input will give our clients additional peace of mind. Park owners who are law-abiding, respectful and decent of course have nothing to fear from the introduction of Legal Expenses.”

The policy is underwritten by Abbey Legal Protection, whose Underwriting Manager Robert Nicholls, said: “Building innovative insurance policies that deliver a product, advice and claims service specifically for an affinity group is central to our business, so we’re delighted to work with Towergate Bakers and Park Home Legal Services to deliver a Legal Expenses product.”

The cover is only available from Towergate Bakers and Foreman Bassett Schemes as part of their park home insurance policies and cannot be purchased separately.
