A change of pace at Christmas

1a2ed56e-b8b7-461f-91b2-54408bfd336d
IF THE prospect of Christmas at home fills you with dread, you could always do the unconventional and get away from it all this year.

Why not try a timber lodge, on a beautiful 64-acre park, on the edge of Bodmin Moor, for instance?

Hoburne Doublebois is one place where you could escape from the madding crowds and Christmas jingles. You could even spend your time playing snooker, skittles, and other traditional games rather than just stretching out in front of yet another TV repeat of The Sound Of Music. And if you love golf, you could take your clubs and play a round on
Christmas Day – the park has its own 9-hole par 3 golf course.

As well as having the dramatic wilderness of Bodmin Moor on its doorstep, Doublebois is only a short drive from the picturesque Cornish fi shing villages of Polperro and Looe, and the sensational all-weather Eden Project, which is closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but open the other 363 days of the year.

Doublebois says that visitors are welcome to decorate their lodge for Christmas, so you don’t have to be entirely free of festive atmosphere. And you could, of course, still watch the Queen’s speech, since your lodge would be equipped with a TV. But with so much to do in the Cornish fresh air, you may decide you can give it a miss.

It won’t cost a fortune, either, unlike some Christmas breaks. In fact, you could pay less than £32 per person, as the price for a three-night stay
over Christmas (December 24-27) is £189 for a timber lodge sleeping up to six people. The price for seven nights (December 24-31) is £315 for up to six people.
