Wagtail Country Park

06ca04ab-1936-4844-812d-f38f13f06c9c
THE five-star luxury lodges at Wagtail Country Park offer you the chance to enjoy peace and tranquility with scenic views over the countryside. As its name suggests, this is a wonderful part of the world for watching various bird varieties, together with animals including deer, hares and rabbits. At the heart of the park is a purpose built, well stocked fishing lake and keen anglers can enjoy dawn to dusk fishing and try their hand at catching carp, perch, roach, rudd, tench and much more. The luxury lodges have been carefully placed to make the most of the main lake and the rural setting. It is also ideal for country walking with a number of walks to be enjoyed on and off the park and in the surrounding countryside. Three circular walks of two-and-a-half, five and seven miles, catering for all abilities, start from nearby Marston Village Hall.

While it certainly makes the most of its rural spot, the park is easily accessed being situated just a mile-and-a-half from the A1 just to the north of Grantham. The Lincolnshire market town, with a broad range of shops, pubs and restaurants, is six miles away, with the equally interesting Nottinghamshire town of Newark, well known for its antique shops and a charming theatre, just 12 miles to the north. The Downtown designer outlet and garden centre is a few minutes away from the park by the A1 for those who enjoy their shopping. Many of the surrounding villages feature traditional country pubs offering fine food and drink. Historical places of interest in the area include Belton House, which belongs to the National Trust and featured in BBC TV’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’, and Belvoir Castle offering great views over the Vale of Belvoir.

As for the golfers, well, you’re spoilt for choice in this area! Just five miles away is Belton Park; Newark Golf Club is ten miles north with Stoke Rochford being 12 miles south down the A1. If you don’t mind driving (no pun intended!) a little further, then The Hotchkin of Woodhall Spa is one of the UK’s finest inland golf courses.
