Heart of Somerset – Primrose Hill

0194212d-5aff-4c8d-b629-d3f110af5847
SITUATED in the village of Charlton Mackerell, Primrose Hill is a delight-ful residential park surrounded by gorgeous Somerset countryside. Most of the plots on the estate have large, well-established gardens, which provide the park with a lovely open feel, in keeping with the picturesque landscape.

Primrose Hill’s manager, Harry Thistle-white, lives on the park with his wife Mags. And it has an active social life, too – including a team of Skittles enthusiasts who play at the local pub.

But if Skittles isn’t your cup of tea, the two local village community centres also cater for a variety of interests, with a WI, gardening club and art classes, and the village has a church, too.

Charlton Mackerell has a post office and village stores, but only three miles away is the market town of Somerton, which has most of the other amenities. Somerton was reputed to be the 7th-century Royal capital of Wessex, and with its 17th-century square, attractive town hall and elegant houses, it’s a lovely place to spend your time.

A little further is Street, which has become well known for its wide range of shops. A couple of miles further is Glastonbury, with its ruined abbey, reputed to be the burial place of King Arthur, and the Tor, from which there are spectacular views across the county.
