Clifton Park, Bedfordshire

087a820b-eba5-4e73-b938-03390d32741a
ALTHOUGH surrounded by open fields and farmland, the park is within easy access of the market towns of Hitchin and Bedford, which provide an extensive range of amenities. The park is also within commuting distance from London, via a 35-minute train journey from neighbouring Arlesey.

Clifton village caters for basic shopping needs and also provides a post office, public houses and a group medical practice. A regular bus service serves the nearby towns of Bedford, Biggleswade, Hitchin and Letchworth.

Clifton Park is set in an attractive rural environment. The park recently underwent a major re-development to a high standard, including new roads and street lighting, professional landscaping, and the installation of mains natural gas. Regular delivery services to the park provide groceries, dairy products, newspapers and a weekly fresh fish service.

For days out, Wrest Park at Silsoe is owned by English Heritage, and has one of the most magnificent gardens in England, yet one of the least well known. Wrest Park’s formal gardens provide a fascinating history of gardening styles, laid out over 150 years and inspired by the great gardens of Versailles in France.

The gardens are celebrated for their rare survival of a formal early 18th century layout of wooded walks and canals, centred on the architectural highlight of the pavilion. Subsequent generations added garden buildings such as the Bath House and the Chinese Pavilion, valuing the special atmosphere of the established garden even when more fashionable landscapers would have swept it away.

Woburn Abbey and Deer Park is set in a beautiful 3,000-acre deer park, with ten species of deer roaming free. The Abbey lies at the heart of the Woburn Estate, a special place full of history, ancient tales and beautiful objects. You can explore Woburn Abbey, its grounds and deer park, and discover for yourself what makes the Abbey one of Britain’s most treasured houses.

Woburn village is noted for its fine architecture, individual shops, tearooms, restaurants and the countryside and parkland that surround it.
