Volkswagen and Land Rover clean up at Caravan Club towcar awards

Over 40 cars were put to the test at Millbrook Proving Ground for the 2016 Caravan Club Towcar of the Year awards, with Land Rover crowned the winner and VW scooping five other titles.

The cars were divided into seven price bands and two weight divisions. Each car was then tested on track – around a high speed ring, an alpine circuit, steep hill-start test, braking pad and more – as well as being judged on its technical specification, ability to carry caravanning kit and in other areas of scrutiny.

Talking about this year's competition, chairman of The Caravan Club, Grenville Chamberlain, said: "It was great to see such a diverse variety of vehicles entered into the competition this year. There is a vehicle choice for everyone’s needs, whether you tow a small trailer tent or a large twin-axle caravan.

"On behalf of The Caravan Club, our congratulations go to all the winners and a special mention must go to Land Rover for its triumphant Discovery."
