Tent and awning firm Kampa reveals new brand name and logo

UK camping manufacturer Kampa has announced it is rebranding its tents and awnings following a £50million purchase by Swedish giants Dometic.

The brand’s range of equipment will be known as Kampa Dometic to coincide with the launch of its 2020 collection.

Tents and caravan, motorhome and campervan awnings will all carry the new name and logo, as well as a collection of premium accessories. The existing Kampa brand will continue to be used on other camping accessories.

Kampa Dometic and Kampa products will continue to be sold through the UK’s independent retailers. The rebranding was revealed to UK retailers at a gathering in the Netherlands, when the new 2020 range was also presented.

Kampa was taken over in December 2018 by global giant Dometic, whose wide range of products include fridges for the caravan market as well as cool boxes.

The Essex-based camping company was founded in 2006 and rose to become one of the biggest and fastest growing outdoor leisure brands in Britain, with sales expected to reach £40m.

Its focus is on the tent and awning market as well as outdoor living products and accessories.

At the time of the takeover, the company employed 33 people and it has central warehouse in the Netherlands covering distribution across Europe. Production is outsourced to the Far East.

Earlier in 2018, managing director and founder Mark Lawless stepped back from the day-to-day running of the company and became chairman, with sales director Myles Salmon taking over as MD.

Mr Salmon said: “The acquisition and rebrand has been extremely positive for the business. The additional support offered to each function by the Dometic Group has proved invaluable during the transition and will continue to be important as we look towards 2020. The new branding has been received very well by trade customers and we are looking forward to unveiling it in full to the UK consumers at the Motorhome and Caravan Show in October.”
