Sandy Balls strikes gold

Sandy Balls Holiday Centre has been awarded with a David Bellamy Gold award for the fifteeth year running.

Sandy Balls is one of only eight parks out of 630 in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards to win ‘gold’ in every one of the 15 years the scheme has been running.

The achievement marks years of work with the Forestry Commission to ensure the site’s stunning 120-acre estate continues to flourish, growing only plants and trees which would have been there naturally – attracting local species of insects, butterflies, birds and animals such as wild deer, foxes, bats and badgers.

The site has recently spent £250,000 on conservation work that has included felling more destructive trees and planting new ones in their place; introducing water-saving devices; and installing special lighting to stop light poullution in the New Forest.

The five-star holiday centre, which is bordered by the picturesque River Avon, is a popular getaway.
