MG launches the GS car – an exciting new SUV

British car manufacturer MG has followed up its Towcar of the Year success with further dedication to the caravan market by launching its stylish new SUV, the GS.

Prices start from £14,995 for the 1.5-litre TGDi engine GS (which, incidentally, stands for “get set”). Kerbweights range from 1385kg to 1467kg.

MG is now also offering a five-year, 80,000-mile warranty on the three GS models available.

The models

MG’s entry-level Explore kicks off the GS model range, starting at £14,995. Middle of the range Excite, is available from £17,495, while the high end Exclusive model is priced from £19,495.

The majority of models in the range are fitted with a six-speed manual, but we got behind of the wheel of a GS Exclusive with MG’s DCT seven-speed auto gearbox (£20,995).

While we haven’t driven it with a caravan yet, the solo drive was a joy, with comfort paramount, good gearing and traction that ratifies the manufacturer’s racing heritage, even in a family SUV such as this.

It's fun to drive but perfectly practical. In short, we can’t wait to hitch up.

What MG says

“This is a great day for us, as we can finally share the information so many people have wanted to know,” explained Matthew Cheyne, head of sales and marketing for MG.

He continued: “The MG GS is competitive in many ways and we are confident it will do well in the SUV market.

“This car offers so much for comparatively little, making it the SUV to choose. The specification on these cars is phenomenal and when you add in the five-year warranty it’s a no-brainer.

“There are some really great features as well, such as the adjustable rear seats that not only recline but fold completely flat, making it adaptable for whatever the customer’s lifestyle.

“Customers choosing the MG GS will save money over more expensive SUVs. They will have all the specification they could want and still have money left to enjoy holidays or family days out.”
