Lincolnshire site scoops top Caravan Club CL prize

The Caravan Club’s top Certificated Location (CL) for 2013 is Greetham Retreat, in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.

Opened only in 2011, the five-pitch caravan and motorhome park was named as winner of the prestigious annual competition the club’s annual Parliamentary Reception on Monday 18 November 2013. Site owners Rob and Jeanette Folwell were presented with their trophy by the shadow minister for transport, Gordon Marsden MP.

Certificated Locations are small privately-owned campsites accommodating up to five vehicles, often in remote and idyllic and locations on farms and country estates, or alongside pubs.

Greetham Retreat Certificated Location is set in four acres of wildlife ponds, wildflower meadows and woodland. The couple built the site themselves in late 2010, following Rob’s retirement from the police a few years earlier. It has hard standing pitches and one alternative grass pitch, and includes a club-standard service point, heated shower and WC.

The site also includes self-catering cottages which can enable campers to bring friends or family who do not have their own caravan or motorhome. The cottages are also available to non-club members.

Greetham Retreat is within striking distance of the Lincolnshire coast, including nature reserves at Snipe Dales, Gibraltar Point, and Freiston Shore, as well as the city of Lincoln.

The Caravan Club has a network of 2500 Certificated Locations across the UK. In this year’s awards, second place went to Low Moor Head CL in Longtown, Cumbria, and third to East Fortune CL, North Berwick.
