Erwin Hymer Group predicts strong growth for motorhomes and caravans

Europe’s Erwin Hymer Group, which owns Erwin Hymer Group UK that produces including Elddis, Compass, Autoquest, as well as importing and distributing marques such as Hymer, Dethleffs, Bürstner and Laika, has reported significant growth during 2020 and predicts demand will remain strong in 2021.

It said that sales of recreational vehicles rose substantially during 2020 with registrations until December in Germany, Europe’s largest motorhome market, exceeding 100,000 – an increase of 28% compared with the same period in 2019.

Erwin Hymer Group said that because its order books and production pipeline is full for months ahead, it increased its workforce by nearly 400 people.

“Against the odds, it’s not only manufacturers and dealerships that have withstood the crisis exceptionally well,” said CEO, Martin Brandt. “Because motorhomes are self-contained, it has enabled them to live up to their promise of more freedom and self-determination, and to prove themselves as ideal for vacationing while observing social-distancing requirements. Many of our customers have also been able to react flexibly to temporary travel restrictions and enjoy their vacation.”

He added that the group expects demand to remain strong in the coming months. “Motorhomes, caravans and campervans have proven themselves able to guarantee a relaxed and safe vacation –while delivering a high degree of individual freedom and self-determination,” he said. “These positive experiences, as also reported by countless camping newbies, will ensure that enthusiasm for caravanning will continue to grow.”
