Dorset campsite scoops green design award

Freshwater Beach Holiday Park in Bridport, Dorset, has won a major design award for its leisure complex, the Jurassic Fun Centre.
The eco-friendly building features a wet-and-wild swimming pool, sauna, a well-equipped gym, and even a bowling alley.It uses a ‘green roof’ supporting native species of salt-tolerant grass and wildflowers, which helps the 2400m2 complex merge into the landscape, and employs state-of-the-art sustainability and eco-friendly features.
Energy-saving features include an air source heat pump which extracts warmth from the outside air to help heat the pool and the inside of the structure.
These features helped Freshwater Beach Holiday Park win the award from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for tourism and leisure projects in the south west of England.
This latest accolade adds to the campsite’s trophy cabinet, having been named Holiday Centre of the Year by the AA in 2013
General manager Scott Condliffe said this latest award was especially pleasing: “We have always been very conscious of the need to protect the integrity of this beautiful part of the Dorset countryside, and to work in partnership with the environment, and our Jurassic Fun Centre achieves this and improves the holiday experience of our guests.”
