Club's Mayday breakdown cover offers tips for motorhome and caravan trips

New research from the Caravan & Motorhome Club's breakdown cover, MAYDAY, has revealed that nearly half (45 per cent) of all caravan, motorhome and campervan owners have planned for their next three to four holidays to be in the UK, with a further 19 percent looking to take up to five to six UK-based breaks in the foreseeable future.

Following these findings, MAYDAY has come up with the following tips for travellers heading to the UK's campsites this summer:

  • Plan your route and check for disruptions such as road closures or delays
  • Pack PPE – don't rely on the campsite's protective equipment, be sure to take your own sanitiser, masks and gloves to keep yourself and others safe
  • Avoid breakdown blunders: Ensure you have sufficient breakdown cover in place when travelling from your locations for minimal disruption to your trip. MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover has been specifically designed with caravans, motorhome and campervan owners in mind
  • Check oil levels – it may have been a while since you last used your vehicle, check it has sufficient oil before setting off on your journey
  • Tyre check – look for any wear and tear and ensure all tyres are filled with the correct amount of pressure
  • Electricity – turn everything on, make sure all your exterior and interior lights and appliances are working as they should be so you can focus on enjoying your time away
  • Cleanliness – keep surfaces clean and give your vehicle a thorough wipe down to get rid of any bacteria.

Allan Steatham, Head of Marketing at the Caravan and Motorhome Club said: “As the results clearly show, Covid-19 continues to impact the UK – including the motorhome and caravanning community. It is vitally important that those who did not use their vehicles regularly during lockdown carry out relevant and thorough safety checks to make sure they are as prepared as possible, in the unlikely event that their vehicle should fail.

"At the Caravan and Motorhome Club, we’re dedicated to getting you to your destination. As part of our MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover, if your vehicle breaks down on the way to and from your holiday, we’ll take you to your chosen destination and then home again.”
