Club reveals plans for campsite reopening

0a10047b-4705-4b52-ab61-85ec23110820

Camping and Caravanning Club campsites could start reopening from 4 July with new safety measures in place.

The Club said it hopes to reopen the majority of its sites, with as many as possible operating with shower and toilet facilities – if allowed by the Government.

The new measures planned include:

  • Increased cleaning regimes where facility blocks are open
  • Contactless check-in
  • Social distancing on pitches and in facilities
  • A ban on day visitors
  • No large groups
  • Communal areas like receptions, shops, laundries and play areas will remain closed

Some campsites will open without toilets and showers but campers will be allowed to put up their own toilet tent at their pitch.

The Club said it was awaiting “clear operational guidance” from the relevant Government bodies before confirming opening dates and arrangements, but hoped to start opening campsites in England from 4 July.

Authorities in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will issue guidance for those parts of the UK.

It’s likely that 26 sites will remain closed for the rest of the season and Ready Camp safari tents, pods and self-catering units will not open this season.

The Club’s worldwide and European travel programme for 2020 has also been cancelled.

Club memberships will be extended period for as long as sites are closed, to ensure members receive their full 12 months.

If facilities are allowed to open, the new cleaning regime will see two deep cleans a day and four supplementary cleans.

Contactless check-in will mean the balance of any money due for your stay will be taken automatically from your account on the morning of your arrival. When you arrive on-site, you can remain in your car and be shown to your pitch by staff.

Pitches will have six-metre spacing and there will be signs and floor markings in the facilities to remind campers to remain two metres apart. Washing up areas and service points will remain open
