Caravan demand prompts company expansion

STRONG consumer demand for new caravans has prompted a major UK manufacturer to expand its premises as part of a £3.5 million investment in the company.

Coachman Caravans is extending its site by an extra 9,000 sq ft to be used as storage and office space and work will start mid-February.

Record sales achieved during 2007 mean the company must grow to meet demand for its products, bosses say.

Coachman managing director Jim Hibbs said: “We had our most successful year to date in 2007, with sales up 11% on the previous year.”

He added that extra storage was needed for an expanded Coachman range, both for finished caravans and the components used to build them.

Mr Hibbs continued: “We hope 2008 will be an even better year for us, but for this to happen we need more space. We are going to dedicate some of the space to new CAD and design offices and we plan to use the rest for storage.”

The company employs a workforce of 144 people and its range of caravans includes Amara, Pastiche, VIP and Laser.
