Camping in the Forest closes three sites to campers

88079142-c4cc-4da5-b6ad-cea30520b145

Camping in the Forest, a partnership between the Forestry Commission and the Camping and Caravanning Club, has closed three of its 19 campsites to motorhomes, caravans and tents.

The three sites, Speirs House in North Yorkshire, Thorpe in Norfolk, and Christchurch in Gloucestershire, will continue to host cabins but will not be available to the touring community.

These sites are no longer to be branded as Camping in the Forest, but as Forest Holidays – an existing operation with nine locations in England and Scotland.

Bob Hill, sites director at the Camping and Caravanning Club, explained to outandaboutlive.co.uk that the forest sites are owned by the Forestry Commission and "are subject to a complex legal framework between the Forestry Commission, Forest Holiday Cabins, and Camping and Caravanning Club, which has resulted in a number of sites being developed as cabin sites only and touring discontinued."

"The club is only concerned with operating and managing CITF touring campsites in partnership with the Forestry Commission, and has no stake in Forest Holiday Cabins."

Tourers who have previously used the Christchurch site are being redirected to Bracelands, less than a mile away and still within the Forest of Dean.

No alternatives are currently being suggested for the other two campsites.
