Calor Promises Free 6kg Lite Cylinder Replacement when Available

Calor has announced it is to give its 6KG Calor Lite cylinder customers a free replacement when their new unit comes out, as long as they can provide proof of purchase.

The news sparked an enormous reaction from Caravan magazine readers worried by the potential cost to them of not being to get a suitable replacement. Reader Darrell Warnes’ reaction was typical of their concerns:

“What about people who bought their caravan with 2 Lite bottles that didn't purchase the bottles originally. But have paid for refills? Will we have to buy new off you?” he said.

In May this year, dismayed Calor Gas customers were shocked with the news from the LPG supplier that they were planning to phase out the lightweight gas cylinder used in their caravans. Customers worried they would have wasted money investing in the 6KG Calor Lite cylinder and that they would not get a decent alternative to replace it.

Calor is worried the 6KG Lite cylinder is not as robust as they would like it to be. The gas cylinder failed routine inspections more often than they felt was acceptable. Therefore, they decided to withdraw it from the market and replace it with a new cylinder, still yet to be available.

But, the new Calor cylinder is still in development and the company put in place a scheme for customers of the Lite cylinder to exchange it for a ‘standard 6KG cylinder.’ Calor says they will put more stock of its standard 6KG cylinder into the market to help customers for the time being until the replacement for the Lite cylinder is available.

Calor says it is aiming to help customers where they can find where they can get 6KG cylinders by improving its ‘Stockist Finder’ service online.

Calor will still sell and support the 6KG Lite cylinder. Stockists will continue to replace like-for-like if they have the stock available. But, if the stockist does not have a Lite version available they will have to replace it, free of charge, for a standard 6KG cylinder.

When the replacement for the Lite cylinder is available, customers can replace their standard version for a new, Lite cylinder, as long as they can show either an original 6 Lite Cylinder Refill Agreement (sometimes known as a 167) required, or alternative receipt, or proof of 6kg Lite purchase.

Customers who want to leave feedback for Calor, or to find out more about the phase out of the 6KG Lite cylinder, can email [email protected] or visit www.calor.co.uk/calor-lite
