5,000 more pitches for C&CC

THE Camping and Caravanning club is set to add 24 new sites to its portfolio, thanks to its ground-breaking partnership with the Forestry Commission.

The Commission's Forest Holidays sites, made up of 21 camping and caravanning sites and three holiday cabin sites, will benefit from a £40million facelift before being managed full time by the Club.

Officially announced earlier this year, the partnership will see the C&CC investing £10miilion in the project and will take on a 75 year lease of the sites.

The works are due to start later this year and are expected to take around five years to complete. When finished the club will boast an extra 5,000 pitches  - an increase of 50 per cent.

It is a move which benefits both organisations, raising money for the Forestry Commission while adding pitches to the Club's overstretched sites network.

David Welsford, director general of the CCC said: " The clubs 400,000 strong membership has been growing by about 10 per cent each year and camp site space is at a premium. This joint venture enables us to provide extra pitches and will be an asset to be proud of."

A Forest Holidays spokesman added: "The Forestry Commission sites were in need of a lot of investment. They were in a situation where if money wasn't spent on them soon they would start to lose customers.

"The toilet blocks and reception areas are in need of renovation, in fact some of the sites don't even have toilet blocks. This was a great way to raise the money and keep the sites up and running."
