2012 Boat & Caravan Show cancelled

The 2012 Boat and Caravan Show has been cancelled.

The show, which would have been in its 51st year, was due to take place next February at the NEC in Birmingham.
 
In a statement today Ocean Media Group, the Boat and Caravan Show organisers, said: "The decision to cancel the show has been taken because of a lack of support from the caravan [and motorhome] manufacturers and their dealers, despite having strong support from all other parts of the show."

Earlier this year the National Caravan Council announced plans to launch its own February show at London's Excel venue, supported by the major motorhome and caravan manufacturers, to compete with the Boat and Caravan Show and attract visitors from the London area.

Ocean Media Group decided that the Boat and Caravan Show was still valuable within the outdoor leisure market, and had the support of the Camping and Caravanning Club and a small percentage of past motorhome and caravan exhibitors.

But today's statment said: "Despite their enthusiasm, these dealers latterly felt unable to participate in the show; this undermined one of the main pillars of the show and renders it no longer viable."

The NCC said: “The National Caravan Council and NCC Events is saddened to hear of Ocean Media’s decision to cancel the 2012 Boat & Caravan Show.

“Following the decision made by the major caravan and motorhome manufacturers and dealers earlier this year to attend a new regional show at London ExCeL, it had been hoped that Ocean Media Group would evolve the content and consumer positioning of their show.”
