Transform your tired tourer

The biggest makeover impact can be achieved with fabrics, as tired and faded upholstery can be replaced by fresh new colours with springy new cushions. Even something as simple as a new set of carpets can have an enormous impact on the overall look and feel of the interior.

Most upholstery specialists will collect your cushion covers and curtains, then design, cut and finish the new ones using the old materials as templates; it usually takes a week. Some can accommodate you and your van at their premises and retrim the it while you wait or enjoy a day out in the local area. This sort of process usually takes a couple of days, but the end result is pretty dramatic.

Specialists like CareAvan can and Regal Furnishings replace every aspect of a van’s soft furnishings. All reputable companies will carry a wide selection of materials, allowing you to select the exact colour and texture you want without waiting for samples or unreliable pictures that may not accurately reflect the true colours of the fabrics you want.

Lincolnshire-based Bespoke Rugs offer a custom carpet edging service where they cut the material to match any layout before binding the edges for a neat finish, giving the carpet a longer life than you’ll get with other methods of fitting.

For your seating and curtain arrangements, companies such as the Caravan and Boat Seat Cover Centre can create permanent replacements for the foam bodies or the upholstery itself, or removable, washable covers to replace the standard items. The CBSCC offers 900 fabric choices, including chenilles, velvets and flat weaves.

It’s not cheap, but personalising the interior of your caravan can really make it stand out and feel more like home. New curtains are likely to set you back anything from around £180. A new set of custom carpets can cost as little as £250, while an interior transformation, to include carpets, upholstery, curtains and bedding will be in the region of £1700, but there are plenty of options to suit many any budget.

Contemporary chic on the cheap

Furniture design is less important to your backside than supportive cushioning. If the cushioning’s okay, why not choose a low-cost kind of makeover? It’s amazing the difference that a simple throw over the standard upholstery will make. You’ll improve the looks, extend the life of the original material and a throw will be easier to regularly clean.
