New caravan models for 2011 - Lunar

6ccdb87b-d83e-44b0-be2d-0cfe8d045d90
A BIG line-up of single-axle models all under 1500kg, two new models, four new layouts, increased specification and big news on beds – that’s Lunar’s 2011 line-up in a nutshell.

All ranges – that’s 21 caravans in total – will have lightweight aluminium-framed seating, satellite television connections, removable shelving in side front head lockers, electric hotplates alongside three gas burners and LED awning lights. All end washrooms will have sliding doors and all fixed-bed models will have sprung mattresses.

Quasars will have large circular bronze-look enamel sinks with laminated chopping board covers that create more work surface when they’re in place.

But the big story for Lunar is all about beds. The first cut-away bed base appeared during 2010. Now, 10 models have this feature which saves weight and creates more floorspace, more space to put your shoes (or the dog!) at night. The bed innovation goes even further, with the launch of transverse beds on new aluminium frames that rise on two robust gas filled struts, incredibly easily, with one-hand touch.

Storage space is only under the head end of the bed; half of the bed structure (at the  foot end) is a frame, supported on two legs, creating floorspace under the bed. The corridor leading to the rear washrooms in these models is wide enough to walk down, provided you fold back the duvet if it’s a bulky one.

Delta models will have water tanks for 2011, underslung, 40 litres in capacity and with automatic switchover, so that if you run out of water in the caravan’s tank, the system automatically switches to draw from your exterior water container. This facility is a £499 option on other ranges.

Deltas and Clubmans will have the ATC stability control system; it’s a £469 option on others.

The two new models are Clubman SB, with fixed single beds and an end washroom, and a Lexon 530, with fixed double bed and end washroom. New layouts for the Clubman SI and Delta TI give both models transverse double beds and therefore more living space forward of the bedroom. The Lexon 560 gets a layout change, with the shower inside a single washroom on the offside. Previous 560s had a shower on the offside and washroom opposite, forward of the island bed.

Quasars get minor specification enhancements. Examples include chunkier doors and door furniture to washrooms, four scatter cushions and four bolster cushions. New microwaves and ovens, plus at least four mains sockets and more lighting is also now included.

U-shaped lounge seating is an option on most models; the extra cost is £95. On some models it’s possible to have L-shaped seating; that’s £165 extra. And leather lounge upholstery will cost you an extra £1095. A remote control alarm system that also switches on your awning light when you approach joins to options list, at £259.

Weights aren’t announced yet – the only clue we get that the famous Lunar lightweight luxury policy is as fervent as ever – and that most single axles are under 1500kg.
