New caravan models for 2011 - Elddis

01b2dabd-aae8-44d5-8421-11dbc62f961b
AMONG the 10 new models to be introduced for 2011, Elddis is to bring the best-selling, fixed-bed, end-washroom layout into its budget Xplore range for the first time.

The Xplore 540 is to be just £12,999 and, like the rest of the Xplore range, will get electronic ignition for the hob, hardwood-framed cabinet doors, a slightly larger fridge (155-litre capacity compared with 108 litres last year).

Other changes include the introduction of large circular steel sinks with removable drainers, directional TV aerials (2010 models had omni-directional versions) and all models except the small, two-berth 302 will get the larger-capacity Thetford C250 toilet.

Like the fixed-bed models across all Elddis ranges, the Xplore 540 will have a higher bed frame than previous Elddis fixed beds, giving slightly larger storage capacity beneath.

Three new models will be introduced in the Avanté range. The four-berth 564 will have a nearside family dining area capable of seating six or more.

The 515 will have a double lounge; the rear one converts to a double bed with a bunk rising from the back wall.

The front lounge makes two long singles and the washroom gives you a separate shower – a real bonus in this layout. The new 554 has twin fixed bunks on the nearside and a washroom with separate shower on the offside; this layout is exclusive to Elddis.

As with the Xplore range there are fabric options; Avanté offers you a choice of three. You have the option of wrap-around seating instead of a chest of drawers.

Upper kitchen cabinets have ivory-coloured doors and the kitchen walls are a matt dark grey to distinguish the kitchen from the living area and the upper lockers are larger. Hobs now have four burners with electronic ignition.

With enhanced spec goes higher prices. Family layout Avanté prices now start at £15,399 for the new 515 and rise to £17,499 for the twin-axle six-berth triple bunk model.

There will be a new model in the Odyssey range, the 656, with fixed bed and large end washroom; the price will be £18,599. All Odysseys will have mains hotplates alongside three gas burners. Leather upholstery will be an option on the two fixed-bed models. Wrap-around seating will be an option on all models except the 656.

Specification in the Crusader range is to increase vastly. Alde central heating, the BPW anti-snaking device and BPW wheel locks, the option of wrap-around seating and dual-fuel hobs are among the additions for 2011.

The four-berth Supercyclone  will have its twin beds forward of  the washroom. The Mistral is to get a new layout, yet to be announced; watch this space!

Crusader prices go up along with the spec. As example, the four-berth (side dinette) Typhoon rises from £17,349 to £19,299 and the six-berth Tempest (four-berth offside dining area) goes up by £2000, to £22,449.

Spec is to increase in the four-model flagship Buccaneer range, which will have wheel locks and roof-mounted satellite dishes.

Alde central heating gets “telemetry”, which means you can switch it on by sending a text message to a sim card in the unit in the caravan. Like the rest of the line-up, refinements increase for the new model year; Go Caravan’s in-depth tests will give more detail in future issues.
