The first of an array of touchscreens had just been installed when we visited United British Caravans’ vast accessory store in July.
They will allow customers to browse through all products, not just those on display, and place orders. Over the next six months, this website facility will expand to eventually include 100,000 lines.
You’ll even be able to virtually explore exteriors and interiors of every new and used caravan on the site.
Owner, Alex Levington, says: “We have an enormous warehouse of items in addition to the ones you see in the shop, so that we can ensure a constant supply of stock.”
UBC has just been voted Thetford Retailer of the Year; Thetford products get a good display, as do Cadac barbecues (one including a pizza stone) and Coleman gear including outdoor cooking items and inflatable kayaks.
A big section is devoted to cool boxes, and freezers and fridges ideal for use in an awning. Of the huge range of chairs we tried a Quest Elite Marrakesh XL – two for £90, or £56.99 for one.
Eye-catching tableware included a melamine 16-piece dinner set for £29.99 (white with a minor pattern around the plate edges), and a 12-piece dinner set in dark grey with vibrant colours inside the bowls, designed in Germany, for £39.99.
A set of two large polycarbonate wine goblets that looked like glass seemed an excellent buy at £6.99. And a kettle that folds to half its size, in turquoise or lime green, at £24.99. Pricey perhaps, but less so when storage is limited.
