Auchnahillin Caravan & Camping Park

SITUATED just off the main A9 road approximately eight miles south-east of Inverness, lies the 10-acre Auchnahillin site, set in a quiet rural location. It is the ideal spot if you want peace and tranquillity, yet convenient for the Highland capital of Inverness and with many other attractions and amenities within an easy drive, it's an ideal base for touring the region.

The site is mainly on firm level grass, and facilities include an informative reception / small shop staffed by the friendly and helpful owners, and a children’s play area. There are static caravans around the edge of the park, available for hire weekly or nightly, and 45 touring pitches with electric hook-ups, plus a separate area for up to  30 tents. The recently refurbished toilet block has 20p coin-operated showers and hairdryers, together with a disabled / parent and baby room, plus dishwashing and laundry facilities.

Nearby Inverness offers shops, entertainment and restaurants, and is best known for the Battle of Culloden. It was here, on April 16th in 1746, that the Duke of Cumberland’s army crushed the Jacobite uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charlie. Cared for by the National Trust, the battlefield is laid out with informative plaques and guided tours are available. Inside the visitor centre, you can also follow the story of this, the last major battle on British soil.

The ‘Black Isle’ is just across the water over Kessock suspension bridge on the A9, which was a haven for many submarines and destroyers during World War II. Chanonry Point near Fortrose and Rosemarkie is renowned as one of the best places in Europe from which to watch dolphins in their natural environment.

Not to be missed is the Loch Ness visitor centre on the A82 south of Inverness. It has an exhibition about the search for the world’s most famous monster, which is said to lurk in the chilly waters. You may arrive feeling sceptical, but leave with the feeling that there is ‘something’ out there! Close by are the graceful Falls of Divach and the striking lochside ruins of the 13th century Urquhart Castle.
