Camping Inspiration: The Yorkshire Coast

5ac9dd64-7173-4c39-8f4c-7c17d10a7bf6

Superb beaches, traditional seaside resorts and quaint villages all combine to give a superb destination for a weekend stay or longer holiday.

And the campsites don’t disappoint either, with you being able to choose between pitching your tent on a basic farm, maybe close to the moors, or using an all singing, all dancing top quality site with every facility.

The Yorkshire coast stretches from Spurn Point in the south of the county to Saltburn-by-the-Sea in the north.

Traditional beach resorts such as Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby, with its winding cobbled streets, Captain Cook associations and historical and literary backdrops,  have long been favourites.

And then there are the picturesque fishing villages such as the stunning Robin Hoods Bay (steep streets and lovely bay), Runswick Bay (sweeping sheltered bay and pretty views) and Staithes (gorgeous bay and laid back lifestyle).

MUST SEE
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is great way of taking in as much of this area as possible. Join it at Whitby and go all the way though to Pickering.

Five miles away is the 18th Century Castle Howard, up there among the top stately homes in the UK. Bridlington, Filey, Whitby, Scarborough – these popular east coast resorts are all worth planning a day trip.

York, of course, is an essential visit. Get inside the famous walls to visit the Minster, the Jorvik Centre or the National Railway Museum.

DID YOU KNOW?
The village of Goathland was the location for Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films and was also where much of the TV series Heartbeat was shot.

STAY AT
MIDDLEWOOD FARM HOLIDAY PARK
Middlewood Lane, Flyingthorpe, Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire YO22 4UF

The site is set on a series of sheltered fields on either side of a back lane. It is less than 10 minutes walk from the beaches and coves of Robin Hoods Bay on the North Yorkshire coast and also very handy for Whitby and Scarborough too. The site takes tents, caravans and campervans and has camping pods. The smaller field is by reception (which is in a farmhouse) and there are toilets and showers here too. On the opposite side of the lane you will find a larger field, which is barrier controlled and has a separate toilet and shower block. The fields are lovely and flat and there are electric hook-ups for those who need them.
